Creating an FTP User

Last updated September 13th, 2010

Creating an FTP user will allow the user to log into a specific folder/directory on your server using FTP.

Step by Step

Follow these steps to create a user:

  1. Click "All FTP servers", then click the server on which you want to create the user.

  2. Click "Add user" button, or the "Add user" link in the FTP Options menu top/right, or the "Add" button above the grid. See Figure 1.

  3. Enter a Username and Password for the new user. See Figure 2.

  4. Basic Mode - Select a website to add the FTP user to. Switch to "Advanced" mode if you want to be able to specify a specific folder for the FTP user to access. See Figure 2.

  5. Advanced Mode - Use this mode to limit the FTP user to a folder inside the Website path, or to a custom folder (i.e. not a website folder). See Figure 3.

  6. In Advanced Mode you can optionally of restricting bandwidth or disk quota for the FTP user. 0 = Unlimited. If "Upload limit" or "Download limit" is non-zero, then the transfer speeds to the server will be restricted to the value in KB/s that you have set. If the "Disk quota" is set to a non zero value, the user will be restricted to that amount of disk in MB in the Home Directory and any subdirectories.

  7. Click the "Add User" button to confirm and create the user.
