How do I configure my email client?

Last updated September 13th, 2010

If you would prefer to use a desktop or mobile email client instead of our webmail client then you will need the details found below.

Connection Settings

  • Mail server = mx1.sitehost.co.nz. This can be used for both POP and IMAP. If you are not sure which to use please read our article on POP vs IMAP.

  • Username = the full email address, e.g. person@example.co.nz. Email addresses based on an alias will not work, it must be the master email address.

  • Password = the password as created in the SiteHost Control Panel or as supplied to you.

  • SMTP Server = typically as specified by your ISP. See the article on What SMTP Server should I use?.

Security Settings

SiteHost uses SSL encryption as a standard on email traffic. This protects your login credentials and the contents of your emails as traffic is exchanged between the mail server and your local email software.

Ensure that you have configured your email software to use SSL (port 995 for POP3 or port 993 for IMAP) in the account settings.

Tutorials

There are numerous online tutorials with instructions on how to configure your preferred email client. Some of the most thorough instructions are provided in the Gmail Help - which we are referencing in the links below.

Please ensure you swap out the Gmail connection settings with the Connection Settings provided in the article above.
