FTP Access to a Website Directory

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is the method used to transfer files to and from your hosting server. Allowing FTP access to your website directory allows users to access and modify the files stored in this directory using an FTP client.

This article provides a quick overview of how you can add and remove FTP users to your website directory. For more detail on how to use FTP on your server see the articles in the FTP Users section.

Step by Step - Adding FTP User

Follow these steps to add an FTP user:

  1. Click "All Website servers"

  2. Click the server that has the website you want to add access to.

  3. Click on the website you want to add the FTP user to.

  4. Click "FTP users"

  5. Click "Add". See Figure 1.

  6. Follow the instructions in the section on creating an FTP user from step 3. The user will then have access to the root of the website and its subfolders.

Step by Step - Remove FTP User

Follow these steps to remove an FTP user from the website:

  1. Click "All Website servers"

  2. Click the Server that has the website you want to remove the user from.

  3. Click on the Website you want to remove the user from.

  4. Click "FTP users".

  5. Click the red "X" next to the user you want to remove. See Figure 2.
